Interior Full of Light

Interior Full of Light

With 11 glass doors on the main floor and a terrace with another glass french doors plus a total of 22 windows, this house is full of light.

One of the first things we did when we restored this house was replace the doors. Each door has a handle that is capable of opening normally and also leaning the upper part of the door back to allow for air.

The house is on a east / west with many of the doors to the north which brings cool air through the house.

One thing we decided to do was to close off the largest door in the house. It is called the “Portone”. This door is of indeterminable age. It may be Renaissance, which we know the dining room doors are. But we needed to protect them so, we gave them exterior shutter doors and a plate safety glass window to let in the light. The house then visually completes the axis from parking through a walkway of indiginous lavender and rosemary. Then sight line continues down the stairs, to the portone into the house down in through two large living rooms to a Renaissance fireplace.

It is gorgeous.
